Senator and former governor of Santiago del Estero Gerardo Zamora rejected this Thursday the increase in salaries for senators, which will rise in March to 11 million pesos. Zamora announced that together with the other senators from the province, José Nedery and Elia Ester del Carmen Moreno, they will renounce that salary increase. The former governor informed through social network X that he sent a letter to the president of the Senate, Victoria Villarruel, to inform that they reject that salary increase. "On this date, and given all the press versions about an increase for the members of the Senate, which would take their earnings to over 11 million pesos; the three Santiago del Estero senators, we have presented a formal note to the Vice President of the Nation, renouncing the same," Zamora stated. The three Santiago del Estero senators join the request to reject the increase that was also announced by the president of the La Libertad Avanza bloc, Patricia Bullrich. Zamora distanced himself from the Justicialist Bloc, which two years ago approved the proposal of former Senator Juan Carlos Romero to annul the resolution that had established that wage increases would not be transferred to the salaries of legislators. The authorities of Congress agreed this Wednesday with the unions on a 12.5% salary increase in installments that is effective from December to May, and that will impact the income of senators because they are linked to the collective bargaining agreements of employees. With that increase, salaries in March will rise from 10.2 million pesos to 11 million pesos, and in May they will reach 11.5 million pesos. Vice President Victoria Villarruel, for her part, clarified that "she does not decide how much they earn" because "that is decided by them." "I can only offer that the increase they receive in the workers' collective bargaining agreements be donated to the Ricardo Gutiérrez Children's Hospital Foundation, with which we have an agreement. And it is up to each senator to donate or collect the increase," she added.
